This walks you from a fresh account to a working on-call setup. It takes about ten minutes.
1. Create your account
Sign up through Checkout, pick a Vigil plan (start on Free), and verify your email. Open Vigil from your account.
2. Build a team and a schedule
Invite the people who’ll be on call, then create a rotation. Vigil shows coverage gaps and conflicts as you go, so you can see at a glance whether every hour is covered.
3. Connect an alert source
Point a monitoring system at Vigil’s inbound webhook, or wire up Beats for heartbeats and synthetic checks. Incoming alerts are de-duplicated and matched against your routing rules.
4. Set escalation & channels
Decide how people are notified — push via Page, SMS, voice, email or chat — and what happens if the first responder doesn’t acknowledge in time.
5. Test it
Fire a test alert. You should get paged on your chosen channel, be able to acknowledge it, and watch the escalation stop. Then check the Insights page to see it reflected in your metrics.
That’s the loop: detect, route, page, acknowledge, resolve, learn.
